A Testimony of Provision: Trusting God's Perfect Plan

Just before waking one morning, I heard a single word—“Alexandria.”

It was so clear, yet so strange. I couldn’t shake it. Why would the Lord speak that name to me?

I started digging. I looked up the definition of the word, searched the Bible, and found places in the world with the name. Eventually, I realized there was a city in our state named Alexandria, but still—I had no idea why God would highlight it.

A few weeks later, my husband came home with news: his company was opening a new store… in Alexandria. They were looking for a store manager.

I didn’t say anything at first about the word I had received. The thought of moving felt too big. We were close to paying off the mortgage on our “forever home”—the place we had raised our family in for 25 years, with our kids and grandkids all nearby.

We said we’d pray about it, but I’ll be honest—our hearts weren’t fully open to the idea.

We made a trip up to Alexandria to look around and see if anything stirred in our spirits, but came home disappointed. We decided not to pursue it.

Two months passed.

Then one day, my husband told me the position was still open. So we said, “Why not?” He threw his name in—and doors opened like never before. So quickly, so easily. It felt like God was putting His fingerprint on every step.

So, we trusted Him and went all in.

We hoped to sell our house and buy a new one before the store’s launch, but that’s when things got bumpy. The housing market was terrible for buyers, and the distance between us didn’t help. My husband had to move up north early for store prep while I stayed back, trying to manage everything with the house.

For months, every house we tried to view disappeared before I could even see it. Frustration, weariness, and doubt crept in. Did we hear God? Or had we made a mistake?

Then came a weekend I’ll never forget.

I drove up again to look at homes, and once again—every plan fell through. My husband and I were sitting in the car, discouraged, wondering what we were doing wrong. I took our dog for a walk before heading back to the hotel… and a bird hit my car window. We looked at each other in shock.

I stepped out to see if it was okay, but it was gone.

On the walk, I found a penny on the ground. I laughed, picked it up, and said, “Penny for luck!” and put it in my pocket.

A few minutes later, I arrived at the hotel—and another bird hit the window. This time, I knew God was speaking.

I immediately thought of the saying, “Kill two birds with one stone.” Maybe it was a sign: God would help us sell our old home and find our new one at the same time. I wasn’t sure yet, but I kept seeking Him.

Four days later, back home and feeling a bit defeated, I opened my daily devotional—and there it was:

Matthew 10:29-31

“Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.”

Tears welled up.

God saw us. He hadn’t forgotten.

He had been speaking all along—through His Word, through His creation, and even through the tiny details like a penny on the ground and birds in flight.

Our faith was renewed.

And wouldn’t you know—within weeks, our house sold and we found our new home.

The moment I walked through the door, I knew it was ours.

It wasn’t what we expected—it was better.

A quiet home in the country. A dream we never thought we could afford. It needed a little work, but it was perfect for us. And the timing? Impeccable. My husband had just been told his rental was no longer available the same week we moved in.

God had it all planned.

Now, on my fridge, I keep a small magnet—my Ebenezer stone. A reminder of what God said and how He provided.

God’s ways are not our ways.

His timing is always perfect.

He sees the sparrows—and He sees us.

He knows what we need before we ask.

He is faithful. Always.

Oh, how He loves you and me.
